What is Peptide bioregulators (Khavinson peptides)?

Peptide bioregulators are very short synthetic peptides, two to four amino acids long, developed by Vladimir Khavinson and colleagues in St. Petersburg. Each is named for the tissue it was proposed to support. Almost all published research on them comes from that group and its collaborators.

Biology & proposed mechanism

The group proposes that these short peptides enter cells and nuclei and influence gene activity, including genes for cell differentiation, partly by interacting with DNA and histones. Their 2020 review summarizes cell, tissue and animal work; for example, it reports that AEDL (Bronchogen) and KEDW (Pancragen) promoted lung and pancreatic cell differentiation. These mechanisms come mainly from laboratory models and have rarely been tested independently.

Research context & identity

This profile groups the members of the family that sellers list, because separate pages would mostly repeat the same small evidence base. Epitalon, Pinealon and Thymalin have their own profiles.

Sequences stated in published abstracts: Bronchogen (Ala-Glu-Asp-Leu, studied in lung and bronchial tissue), Cortagen (Ala-Glu-Asp-Pro), Livagen (Lys-Glu-Asp-Ala, liver), Pancragen (Lys-Glu-Asp-Trp, pancreas), Testagen (Lys-Glu-Asp-Gly) and Vilon (Lys-Glu). Cardiogen, Chonluten, Prostamax, Thymogen (sold as Thymagen) and Vesugen appear in the literature, but the abstracts checked did not state their sequences. Cartalax and Vesilute had no indexed publications. In PubMed, "Ovagen" refers to an unrelated veterinary follicle-stimulating hormone product, so a seller's "Ovagen peptide" could not be matched to any study.

Review: short peptides and cell differentiation

What did this publication test, and what did it find?

Population / model
Cell cultures, tissue explants and laboratory animals, as summarized by the originating research group.
Study design
Narrative review of the group's own and related research on short peptides and stem-cell or tissue-cell differentiation.
Main finding
The review reports that particular short peptides were associated with differentiation of nerve, lung, pancreatic, immune and bone-forming cells in laboratory models, and describes proposed gene and chromatin mechanisms.
Limits & context
The evidence is concentrated in one research network, much of it in Russian-language journals, with few independent replications and few controlled human trials. A narrative review by the originating group is not a systematic review, and seller product names may not match the exact compounds studied.

Safety & precautions

Safety & what remains unknown

Formal human safety data are limited. Small Russian clinical reports exist for some members, but they do not establish safety to modern trial standards, and research-grade vials are not tested as medicines.

Questions worth asking

  • Why are 14 products covered on one page?
  • What material, population, and route were actually studied?
  • The evidence is concentrated in one research network, much of it in Russian-language journals, with few independent replications and few controlled human trials. A narrative review by the originating group is not a systematic review, and seller product names may not match the exact compounds studied.
  • What adverse effects, uncertainty, and conflicts of interest does the original source report?

Frequently asked questions

Why are 14 products covered on one page?

They share one origin, one proposed mechanism and one small, mostly single-group evidence base. One page states those shared limits clearly, and it notes which names have a sequence confirmed in published abstracts.

Does the publication verify a supplier’s product?

No. The tested material and a commercial listing need separate identity and batch checks. A research-use disclaimer does not establish clinical suitability.
