What is GHK-Cu?

GHK-Cu combines a short peptide with copper. It is discussed in topical skin care and tissue-remodeling research, which should be separated from injection claims.

Mechanism & research rationale

Research examines copper-peptide effects on repair-associated cells and vascular signaling. Those hypotheses must be tested in the relevant tissue, formulation, and clinical problem.

Research context & status

This profile includes a topical wound experiment with a negative result. Cosmetic appearance, wound closure, and systemic repair are different outcomes and cannot stand in for one another.

Animal / laboratory study · 2013

Irradiated wound model

Effects of topical copper tripeptide complex on wound healing in an irradiated rat model.

Population / model
Rats with surgically created skin flaps after irradiation.
Study design
Topical GHK-Cu gel versus control ointment for ten days.
Main finding
No significant difference was found in flap ischemia, blood-vessel measurements, or VEGF expression under the study’s analysis criteria.
Limits & context
This negative result belongs beside positive mechanistic claims. It does not settle all cosmetic questions, but it shows that a repair hypothesis may fail in a specific model.

Animal study · 1993

Connective-tissue accumulation in wound chambers

Which wound-tissue measures changed with the copper-peptide complex?

Population / model
Rats with implanted wound chambers.
Study design
Local GHK-Cu exposure compared with saline and a control tripeptide; wound contents and selected gene transcripts measured.
Main finding
The investigators found concentration-dependent increases in collagen, total protein, DNA, and glycosaminoglycan accumulation. Type I and III collagen messenger RNA increased; TGF-beta messenger RNA did not.
How to read it
The findings concern formation and accumulation of extracellular matrix in an experimental wound environment.
Limits & context
This is not a human wrinkle, hair-growth, or longevity trial. A local wound-chamber exposure cannot establish the performance of a cosmetic product or an injectable research preparation.

What are people discussing?

Fouad Abiad Media

Skin claims reaching a wider audience

The host describes hearing skin-related GHK-Cu claims from people outside bodybuilding. The passage illustrates the spread of a claim; it does not provide clinical evidence that the claim is true.

Question to take to the evidence

Does the cited skin study use the same formulation and route as the product being discussed?

Questions worth asking

  • What specific product, route, and research population does the claim refer to?
  • Does the source measure an outcome in people, or only a laboratory marker?
  • Topical products, injected preparations, and animal studies answer different questions.
  • What adverse effects, uncertainty, and conflicts of interest does the original source report?

Frequently asked questions

Does a skin-care ingredient establish an injectable therapy?

No. Route, exposure, and intended outcome differ.

Why include a negative animal study?

It tests the proposed benefit and helps prevent a page from presenting only favorable findings.

What does the additional research establish?

The findings concern formation and accumulation of extracellular matrix in an experimental wound environment. This is not a human wrinkle, hair-growth, or longevity trial. A local wound-chamber exposure cannot establish the performance of a cosmetic product or an injectable research preparation.
